Coker Edges Anderson in Conference Play

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's basketball team edged the visiting Anderson Trojans 78-72 in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday (Jan. 13) evening.

The Cobras opened the game up on a 15-6 run thanks to three pointers from Khalil Halls, Jake Barrett, and Donte Samuels. Anderson responded with a run of their own to tie the game at 24-24.  The two teams traded scores for the remainder of the first half, with the Cobras taking a 34-33 lead as Halls scored on a dunk as time expired in the half.

Coker used an 8-0 run in the second half to jump out to a 50-43 lead behind a pair of three-pointers from Marquis Green and a bucket from Demarco Jackson.  The Trojans responded again, taking a 64-63 lead with just over five minutes to play.

Halls made a clutch three-pointer with 2:18 to play, and then the Cobras defense prevented Anderson from hitting a field goal over the final two and a half minutes to give Coker the victory.

Halls and Jackson were tied with 13 points as the leading scorers for the Cobras, and Barrett chipped in 11 points and five rebounds.

Coker will be back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 17) when they face the Wingate Bulldogs in the DeLoach Center.  Tipoff is set for 8:00 p.m.
