Coker Begins 2018 with SAC Matchup Against Newberry

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team will begin 2018 when they host the visiting Newberry College Wolves on Wednesday (Jan. 3) in South Atlantic Conference action. Opening tip is set for 8 p.m. in the DeLoach Center. Live stats and video will be available at www.cokercobras.com. 

The Navy and Gold head into tomorrow's game with three players averaging double-digit figures in points per game. Donte Samuels leads Coker averaging 16.1 points per game and is nearing 1,000 career points with 998 through 13 games in the 2017-18 season. Additionally, Samuels has spread the ball around, dishing out a team-best 2.4 assists per game. Jake Barrett is Coker's second leading scorer, accumulating 14.3 per game, while Khalil Halls is the final Cobra averaging double-digit numbers with 12.5 per game. 

On the defensive end, Samuels has anchored the Cobras with a team-leading 7.4 rebounds per game and team-high 1.8 steals per game. Larry Cooper is another Cobra to watch on both ends of the court, averaging 8.5 points per game and bringing down 5.5 rebounds per game. 

Newberry enters tomorrow's contest with a 7-5 overall record that includes a 2-3 mark in SAC action. Rob Valentine leads the Wolves offensively, averaging 17.3 points per game.
