Coker's Upset Over No. 2 Queens Falls Short

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College men's basketball game dropped a South Atlantic Conference matchup against second-ranked Queens 82-75 on Monday (Dec. 18) evening.

All five starters scored in double figures with Marquis Green leading the way with 16 points. Donte Samuels filled the statsheet with 12 points, four rebounds, and five steals, and Jake Barrett added 12 points, five rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

The Cobras fell behind 24-16 midway through the first half before battling back to tie the game at 36-36 with just over four minutes remaining. Neither team scored until Green hit a shot with just two seconds remaining in the half, giving Coker a 38-36 lead at halftime.

Queens jumped out to a 45-40 lead after the half before the Cobras used an electric 8-0 run, capped by a thunderous Larry Cooper dunk, to take the lead.  Coker ran their lead up to 60-52 before the Royals began their comeback. Queens led 77-72 when Demarco Jackson connected on a three-pointer to cut the lead to 77-75 with 2:25 to play.

Queens scored the last five points of the game and pulled out the narrow victory on the road over the Cobras.

The Cobras will be back in action on Jan. 3 when Newberry visits Coker for a South Atlantic Conference matchup in the DeLoach Center. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m.
