Coker Cruises Past Southern Wesleyan in Non-Conference Matchup

HARTSVILLE, SC- The Coker College men's basketball team defeated Southern Wesleyan by a final score of 90-58 in a non-conference matchup on Saturday (Dec. 2) afternoon.  

The Cobras never trailed in the game, jumping out to a quick 13-2 lead right from the opening tip.  The Navy and Gold extended their lead to 48-24 by halftime thanks to a strong defensive effort that forced 14 turnovers, while accumulating eight steals and six blocked shots. 

Jake Barrett led the way offensively in the first half, scoring 12 points and hitting five of eight shots from the field.  Demarco Jackson chipped in nine first-half points, adding five rebounds, two assists, and a block. 

Coker continued its' strong defensive performance in the second half, by forcing an additional 11 turnovers for a total of 25 in the game. Coker stretched the lead to 83-55 before emptying their bench for the final four minutes. 

Barrett led all scorers with 24 points, and 14 different Cobras scored in the game. Donte Samuels tallied 16 points, and Jackson added 13 points along with eight rebounds, four assists, one steal, and one block. Nathan Lemke had an impressive defensive game, recording seven blocks in just 13 minutes of action. 

Next up for Coker is a non-conference road game against Limestone on Tuesday (Dec. 5).  Opening tip is set for 7:30 at the Timken Center in Gaffney, SC.
