Cobras and Eagles Square Off in Saturday SAC Showdown

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team will return home on Saturday (Jan. 14) for game one of a three-game homestand to face the visiting Carson-Newman University Eagles in a South Atlantic Conference matchup. Opening tip is set for 4 p.m. with live stats and video available at www.cokercobras.com.

Since joining the SAC, Coker has an even 4-4 mark against Carson-Newman, including a 2-1 mark when the Cobras host the Eagles.

JaQuez Motley continues to lead the scoring attack for the Navy and Gold, averaging 13.2 points per contest. Jake Barrett is averaging 18 points per game in his last two games, shooting a combined 15-23 (65%) from the field during that span. Nathan Lemke comes into Saturday's matchup averaging 9.1 points and 7.3 rebounds per contest, while shooting 53.6 percent from the field. Over the past 10 games, Lemke has scored in double figures in five of them, including three double-doubles during that stretch. Roman Hall and Miguel Priest are averaging nine points per game, while Jalal Abdul-Azeez has scored in double figures in four of the last six games.

As a team, the Cobras lead the South Atlantic Conference in offensive rebounding, pulling down 14.7 offensive boards per game, along with swiping the second-most steals per game, averaging 10.1 steals per contest.

Carson-Newman travels to Hartsville with a 9-6 overall record and a 6-3 record in South Atlantic Conference action. Four players are averaging 10 or more points per contest, led by Charles Clark and his 20 points per game average.
