Cobras Fall to No. 8 Royals in SAC Showdown

CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team dropped a South Atlantic Conference road matchup to the No. 8 nationally-ranked Queens University of Charlotte Royals on Monday (Dec. 12) by a score of 83-55

A slow-moving opening seven minutes saw Queens lead 11-10 at the 12:55 mark in the first half.  The Royals surged ahead on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to take a 23-10 lead with nine minutes remaining in the opening half. The deficit for Coker was cut to nine at the 5:34 mark, however the Royals were able to open the lead up to 18 with 2:43 remaining in the opening frame. The Cobras closed the first half with momentum, putting together an 8-1 run to close out the half. The two teams departed for the locker rooms with Queens leading 44-33 at the half.

The Cobras were able to cut the deficit to eight at the 17:53 mark and the 14:27 mark, however, they were not able to break through the eight-point mark, with Queens pulling away down the stretch and picking up the 83-55 win.

Nathan Lemke recorded his second-consecutive double-double, finishing with 20 points and 15 rebounds. Jake Barrett was the only other Cobra to finish in double figures, notching 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Cobras will have a quick turnaround, as they host Anderson University on Wednesday (Dec. 14) at 8 p.m.
