Coker Men's Basketball Releases 2016-17 Schedule

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team, under the direction of first-year Aric Samuel head coach, released its 2016-17 schedule today.

The 30-game slate begins on Nov. 11-12 when the Cobras head to the South Atlantic Conference/Conference Carolinas Challenge hosted at North Greenville University. After a non-conference matchup with Limestone, the Navy and Gold head to Newberry College for the Newberry Invitational where they will face Southern Wesleyan and Paine College.

Coker's home opener and South Atlantic Conference opener fall on the Nov. 22 when the visiting Catawba College Indians travel to Hartsville. This season marks Coker's fourth in the South Atlantic Conference.

Trips to Gardner-Webb University and Hampton University highlight Coker's schedule. The Cobras will face the Runnin' Bulldogs of Gardner-Webb, who finished last season with a 17-16 overall record and 10-8 in Big South play, on Nov. 29. The Navy and Gold will close out the 2016 calendar year with a trip to Hampton University on Dec. 30 to take on the Pirates. The Pirates are coming off a 21-11 (13-3 MEAC) 2015-16 season in which they won the MEAC Tournament title and qualified for the NCAA Tournament.

The Cobras' 22-game SAC schedule features home and away matchups against NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship runner-up Lincoln Memorial University. Coker will also play home and away games against Queens, Wingate and Lenoir-Rhyne, all of which made it to the second round of the NCAA DII Men's Basketball Championship.

The Navy and Gold will play 12 games inside the friendly confines of the Harris E. and Louise H. DeLoach Center, including a three-game homestand from Jan. 14-21, where they play host to Carson-Newman University, Lenoir-Rhyne University and Lincoln Memorial.
