Samuels and Bethel Propel Coker Past Lenoir-Rhyne

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Donte Samuels and Errick Bethel combined for 50 points in the Coker Cobras' 73-67 win over the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears on Wednesday (Feb. 25) evening in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action.

After exchanging baskets through the first ten minutes of play, the Bears built as much as a five-point lead. The Cobras continued to battle, but found themselves trailing by three at halftime.

Lenoir-Rhyne continued to pour of the offense in the second half, taking as much as a six-point lead with 13:36 left in the game. Then the tables turned as Aubrey Daniel and Bethel knocked down back-to-back three-pointers to tie the game at 46 with 12:26 remaining. Bethel then netted four straight free throws to give the Cobras the lead and they never looked back.

Samuels led all scorers with 28 points and five rebounds, while Bethel poured in 22 points with three rebounds. Daniel added 10 points, five boards and four assists, and Trey Marshall chipped in eight points with three rebounds and three assists.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Feb. 28) for their final home game of the season against Tusculum College. It will Coker's Homecoming and senior day game. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
