Stellar Shooting Leads Coker to 75-64 Win Over Carson-Newman

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra men's basketball team picked up its third straight win at home on Saturday (Jan. 17) with a 75-64 win over the Carson-Newman Eagles in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action.

The Cobras found themselves down early in the first half, but led by Errick Bethel's 21 first half points, including six baskets from long range, Coker fought back to take a 42-34 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Coker continued to pile on the points in the second half thanks to some lights out shooting. The Cobras connected on 13-of-26 (50 percent) shots in the second half and finished the game shooting 49.1 percent (27-for-55) from the field. They also hit 45.5 percent of their shots from beyond the arc, making 10-of-22 three-pointers in the game.

Bethel poured in 29 points for the second consecutive game to lead the Cobras. He was 10-for-18, going 6-for-11 from three-point range. Trey Marshall added 13 points, six rebounds and five assists, and Alex Cohen scored a season high 10 points with eight boards.

Coker will return to action in another SAC matchup on Wednesday (Jan. 21) at Newberry College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. at Newberry's Eleazer Arena, following the women's game.
