Cobras Blow Past Tornados 75-51

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras opened 2015 with a dominating 75-51 win over South Atlantic Conference foe Brevard College on Saturday (Jan. 3) in collegiate men's basketball action.

The Cobras spread the wealth on offense, as four players registered double figures. Errick Bethel led the way with a game-high 14 points, while Trey Marshall added 13 points. Trey James recorded the only double-double of the game with 10 points and 12 rebounds, and Donte Samuels netted 10 points and pulled down four boards.

Coker was spectacular on defense as they forced 16 Tornado turnovers leading to 22 points, holding Brevard to just 38.9 percent shooting from the field. The Cobras also out rebounded the Tornados 41-32 and scored 22 points off the bench.

The game started with an impressive 20-8 run by the Cobras in the first 10 minutes of action. Coker then closed out the half with an 11-2 run, taking a 37-19 lead into the break. The Cobras continued their momentum into the second half, building as much as a 29-point advantage with 7:24 left in the game, eventually taking home the 75-51 win.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Jan. 7) when they travel to Charlotte, N.C. to take on Queens University of Charlotte in a SAC game. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
