Former Cobra Nelson Continues Career in Iceland

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – Former Coker College men's basketball player Julian Nelson has signed a professional contract with Hamar Basketball Club in Iceland's Division I League. Nelson leaves for Iceland on August 27th.

"I am elated to receive an opportunity to continue my basketball career," said Nelson. "I understand how blessed I am, and I owe a lot of this success to my family for always supporting me. I have to thank Coach Schmotzer for the opportunity to play college ball and my teammates over the seasons for helping me along the way."

Nelson, a 6-5, 195-lbs guard, started all 28 games for the Cobras in 2013-14. He averaged 19 points per game en route to an All-SAC Honorable Mention selection. He scored in double-figures in all but two games, including 13, 20-plus point outings and three 30-plus point games.

Nelson, a native of Irmo, S.C., concluded his career as the Cobras' fourth all-time scorer with 1,418 points. He also earned two all-conference selections and three team MVPs.

A 2014 graduate, Nelson received a degree in physical education and sport studies with a concentration in exercise science. He is the son of Lloyd and Nina Nelson.
