Cobras Open Tourney Against Carson-Newman

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College men's basketball team heads to Carson Newman University on Wednesday (Mar. 5) for a quarterfinal matchup in the 2014 Food Lion South Atlantic Conference men's basketball tournament. The Navy and Yellow enter the matchup as the No. 7 seed, while the Eagles come in as the No. 2 seed. The two split the regular season series, each winning at home.

The Cobras enter the game with a 14-12 overall and 11-11 conference record after a convincing 19 point win over Tusculum College (90-71) this past Saturday. On the season, senior guard Julian Nelson who is averaging 19 points a game leads the team. He has the sixth highest scoring average in the conference. Junior Larry Felder comes into the contest averaging 12.3 points and 6.6 rebounds a game. He is also shooting 63 percent on the season, which is a good enough for second best in the conference. The backcourt duo of the Errick Bethel and Trey Marshall are also in double figures for scoring, averaging 11 and 10 points a game respectfully.

Carson-Newman comes into the game with a 19-7 overall and 16-6 conference record after a 14 point victory over Newberry in their last game. Ishmael Sanders and Antoine Davis, who are averaging 19.7 and 19.5 points a game respectively, lead the Eagles. Both are in the top five for scoring in the conference.
