Coker Drops SAC Contest to Brevard 88-84

BREVARD, N.C. – Larry Felder scored 18 points and pulled down six rebounds for the Cobras in their 88-84 loss to Brevard in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action Saturday (Feb. 15).

Brevard took an early 12-5 lead eight minutes into the game, but the Cobras quickly responded with a 7-0 run to knot the game up at 12. Coker and Brevard would trade baskets over the next two minutes tying the game at 18 with 8:32 to go in the first half. A three by Brevard on the next play would spark a 23-14 run by the Tornados that would give them a 41-32 lead heading into the break.

In the second half the Cobras came out of the locker room ready to battle, and they quickly erased the Tornados lead. With an Eren Moses free throw and a Errick Bethel three, Coker took a 50-48 lead with 14 minutes left. With the score tied at 58, Brevard would convert an old fashioned three-point play to take a 61-58 lead with 10 minutes to go. Over the next nine minutes the Tornados would open up an eight-point lead, but the Cobras would chip away and eventually take an 81-80 lead with 1:05 left in the game thanks to a Felder layup. A big three and timely free throw shooting by Brevard would be the difference down the stretch as the Tornados secured an 88-84 win.

In addition to Felder's team-high 18 points, Julian Nelson scored 17 points, while Trey Marshall chipped in 14 points and added seven assists. Bethel was the fourth Cobra in double figures with 11 points and a career-high seven rebounds. Moses led the Cobra defense with nine rebounds and five blocks.

Coker returns to the court on Monday (Feb. 17) when they travel to Catawba College to take on the Indians. Tip-off is slated for 8 p.m. following the women's game.
