Coker Overpowers Catawba 101-82

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras surpassed the century mark for the second time in the last four games with a commanding 101-82 win over Catawba College on Wednesday (Jan. 15) night in South Atlantic Conference men's basketball action. The victory improves the Cobras to 8-5 on the year and 5-4 in the SAC.

Julian Nelson was Coker's leading scorer with 24 points and three rebounds, while Teon Beckett followed close behind with 21 points and nine rebounds. Larry Felder added 13 points and seven rebounds, and Eren Moses netted 12 points and grabbed nine boards. Trey Marshall and Errick Bethel chipped in nine points each as well for the Cobras.

The Cobras had an impressive night shooting, knocking down 55.6 percent of their shots from the floor. They were also a dominating force on the boards, pulling down 45 total rebounds, compared to just 32 for Catawba.

Catawba took a short two-point lead at the beginning of the game, 6-4. The Cobras, however, quickly erased the lead with a 15-4 run and they never looked back. At the break Coker held a 44-36 advantage.

Coker maintained at least a 10-point lead through the entire second half, and they secured the victory with a 19-12 run during the final six minutes of the game for a 101-82 victory.

The Cobras will hit the road for their next game on Saturday (Jan. 18) at Carson-Newman. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
