Coker Comes From Behind to Defeat Anderson 83-81

ANDERSON, S.C. – The Coker Cobras used a 24-11 run in the final nine minutes of action to secure a 83-81 come from behind victory against Anderson University on Saturday (Jan. 11) evening. The South Atlantic Conference win moves Coker to 4-4 in league play and 7-5 overall.

The Cobras battled for nearly 37 minutes before they were able to take their first lead of the ball game, 74-73.  After both teams exchanged baskets, Trey Marshall put Coker on top for good thanks to a three-ball with just 39 seconds left in the game. Anderson cut the lead to just one point, 82-81, with four seconds left in the game.  Larry Felder's free throw a second later gave the Cobras the 83-81 come from behind victory.

As a team the Cobras turned 17 Trojan turnovers into 24 points. They also shot 46.8 percent from the field, pulled down 30 rebounds and scored 37 points off the bench. Coker dominated down low, scoring 38 points in paint, compared to just 18 points for Anderson.

Julian Nelson led the way for Coker with 25 points, four rebounds, four assists and four steals. Larry Felder was next with 15 points and seven rebounds, while Teon Beckett and Trey Marshall recorded 14 points each. Beckett also pulled in six rebounds.

Coker will return home for its next game on Wednesday (Jan. 15) versus Catawba. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. following the women's game at 6 p.m.  It will be First Responders Night at Coker, as first-response personnel such as fire, police, and emergency medical service workers, and their families, will receive free admission to the games.
