Coker Captures 95-79 Win Over Mars Hill

MARS HILL, N.C. – Four Cobras scored in double figures to lead the Coker men's basketball team to a 95-79 victory over the Mars Hill Lions on Saturday (Dec. 14) evening. With the South Atlantic Conference win the Cobras move to 5-3 overall and 2-3 in the SAC.

Julian Nelson led the way for the Cobras with a game high 23 points. Nelson also eclipsed 1,000 career points during the game, becoming just the 12th Coker player to reach 1,000 career points. Teon Beckett earned the only double-double of the game with 18 points and 16 rebounds, while Trey Marshall and Errick Bethel poured in 16 points each.

The Cobras took advantage of solid shooting in the first half to take an 11 point lead, 47-36, into the locker room at halftime. Coker hit 51.3 percent from the field during the half and out rebounded the Lions 20-17.

The second half saw Coker's hot shooting move from the field to the free throw line. The Cobras connected on 13 of 15 shots from the charity stripe for 86.7 percent.

For the game, the Cobras hit 48.7 percent from the floor and 75 percent from the free throw line. They also scored 18 fast break points and scored 42 points off the bench. 

Coker will be back in action on Sunday (Dec. 22) in a road game at UNC Pembroke. Tip-off is scheduled for 2 p.m.
