Cobras Shoot Down the Flying Fleet, 61-51

DUE WEST, S.C. – Coker's Julian Nelson dropped a team high 24 points on the Flying Fleet of Erskine in the Cobras 61-51 win over Erskine on Saturday (Feb. 2). With the win the Cobras improve to 10-9 overall and 7-6 in Conference Carolinas action. The win also completes Coker's sweep of Erskine this season. The Cobras defeated the Fleet 79-74 on Jan. 3.

Erskine scored the opening two baskets of the game to take an early lead, but Coker answered quickly, taking a 6-4 lead at 17:54 and they never looked back. Andrew Morris capped off the first half with a 3-pointer, giving the Cobras a 31-24 lead at the break. Coker held the lead throughout the second half, keeping the Fleet at bay and winning the game 61-51.

The Cobras cleaned up on the boards with 35 rebounds, compared to just 29 for Erskine. They also took advantage of an 84.2 percent shooting night from the charity stripe, hitting 16-of-19 free throws.

Nelson finished the night with 24 points, four rebounds and two assists. Morris added 13 points; two rebounds and two assists and Sharod Williams chipped in 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds with two steals.

The Cobras will be back on the hardwood at home against Barton College on Wednesday (Feb. 6) at 7:30 p.m. Coker is hosting First Responders Night, all police, fire and emergency medical service personnel, and their immediate families receive free admission to both the women's game at 5:30 p.m. and the men's game.
