Bobcats Sneak Past Coker, 60-58

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker men's basketball team lost a heartbreaking game on Saturday(Jan. 19) evening, 60-58 to the Lees-McRae College Bobcats. Julian Nelson scored a game high 21 points for the Cobras and Larry Felder earned his third double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds in the loss.

A close game from start to finish, the Bobcats clung to narrow two-point lead at the break, 30-28. The second half was much like the first with neither team taking more than a four-point lead for the first 15 minutes of the second half. Lees-McRae pushed their lead to 10 points with 1:30 left in the game thanks to a 10-2 run. The Cobras were not ready to give up, scoring eight unanswered points down the stretch to cut the lead to just two, 60-58.

Coker did have a chance to tie or win the game, earning one last possession with 17 seconds left, but they were unable to get a shot off in time.

The Cobras out shot and out rebounded the Bobcats, hitting 42.9 percent from the floor compared to Lees-McRae's 40.4 percent and pulling down 34 rebounds compared to the Bobcat's 29. 

Teon Beckett added seven points and Shard Williams chipped in six.

The Coker men will be back on the court on Tuesday (Jan. 22) when they host Coastal Georgia in a non-conference game at 7:30 p.m.
