Cobras Clinch Spot in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas Championship Game with 2-1 Upset of Limestone

CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Coker University field hockey clinched a spot in the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas tournament championship with a 2-1 upset of top-seeded Limestone on Friday (Apr. 2). The victory marks the first South Atlantic Conference Carolinas championship berth in program history for Coker.

Coda Fisher got the scoring started four and a half minutes in, before the Cobras took their 1-0 lead to the second quarter.

Limestone would tie things up less than two minutes into the second, before the teams went to the half knotted up at one. The third quarter was scoreless for both teams, as they went to the fourth still tied up.

Britt Kabo would score from Lieke Bruijn halfway through the fourth to give the Cobras the lead for good, her third game-winning goal of the season. The Cobras completed the sweep of Limestone, handing the Saints their only two losses of the season.

Coker totaled five shots in the game, with two each from Kabo and Fisher and one from Rylie Cordrey. Coker earned five penalty corners to Limestone's four in the win. Kelsey Gibbons (5-2) picked up the win between the pipes, making two saves.

The Cobras will face host Queens (N.C.) in the South Atlantic Conference Carolinas championship game tomorrow (Saturday, Apr. 3). The game begins at 2:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com.
