Field Hockey Falls at Queens (N.C.) in Conference Action on Tuesday

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -  The Coker University field hockey team dropped its South Atlantic Conference Carolinas contest at Queens (N.C.) on Tuesday (Oct. 22) by a score of 4-1. 

The two teams were defensive to start, playing tight in their own ends respectively. Queens would strike for the first goal of the game, when Gabe Lechner found the back of the cage just past the halfway point of the first quarter. 

The Royals would keep the Cobras off the board in the second quarter to take their 1-0 lead to the half. Coker totaled three shots in the first half, while also recording three penalty corners. 

 The Royals would score off a penalty corner less than three minutes into the third quarter, when Molly Walter set up Millie Eaton-Jones for the goal. Queens would capitalize on another penalty corner in the dying seconds of the quarter, when Carey Karl scored from Leighton Eber to put the Royals up by three. 

Queens would increase its lead to 4-0 on a goal from Hanna Nechay assisted by Mazvita Mtisi just over five minutes into the fourth. Kelly Mason would score unassisted less than three minutes later to get the Cobras on the board and get the game at its final score. 

Coker totaled seven shots in the contest, including two on goal. Mason was Coker's lone goal scorer on the afternoon. Lisa Rempt led the Cobras with three shots, while Mason recorded two. Kaleigh Cordrey and Payton Baronella-O'Toole each registered one shot in the game. Kelsey Gibbons (5-3) took the loss between the pipes, making seven saves. 

The Cobras (8-6, 5-5 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) are back at home at the Coker Athletic Field tomorrow night (Wednesday, Oct. 23) when they wrap up the regular season series with Belmont Abbey. The action is slated for a 7:00 p.m. start.
