Field Hockey Clips Molloy 3-2 to Sweep New York Road Trip

ROCKVILLE CENTRE, N.Y. - The Coker University field hockey team ended their road trip to New York with a 3-2 win at Molloy on Monday (Oct. 7).

Coker jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, scoring less than five minutes into the contest. Off a penalty corner, Ellie Mead fired a shot through traffic that deflected in off the stick of Amelia Gajewski to give the Cobras the lead. Coker would hold its 1-0 lead into the second quarter, and then for all but the final 28 seconds of the first half. Molloy would knot the game with 28 seconds left in the half with a goal from Kyra Dalli assisted by Nadia Elcock. The teams would head to the break deadlocked at 1-1.

Coker opened up the second half in a big way, when Gajewski scored her second of the game just 1:32 in to re-gain the lead for the Cobras. Molloy would tie the game yet again halfway through the quarter with a goal from Olympia Moulton assisted by Erin Tudryn. The two teams would head to the fourth quarter tied at two.

Coker would need just one in the fourth to take the road victory. Five minutes into the fourth quarter, Britt Kabo would score off a rebound to beat the Molloy goalkeeper to the right and put the Cobras ahead for good.

The Cobras out-shot Molloy 22-13, while also earning 11 penalty corners to Molloy's nine. Gajewski scored twice, while Kabo also notched one goal. Mead also registered an assist in the contest. Gajewski's five shots led the team, while three other Cobras each registered three shots on the day. Victoria Humphreys and Kaleigh Cordrey each posted two shots in the game, while Kelly Mason added one shot. Kelsey Gibbons (3-2) earned the win between the pipes, making seven saves.

The Cobras (6-5) are back in action on Oct. 15 when they return to conference play at Mount Olive. The game is set for a 4:00 p.m. start.
