Cobras Drop Conference Contest to Queens (N.C.) on Wednesday

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University field hockey team fell in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action on Wednesday (Sept. 25) to visiting Queens (N.C.) by a score of 3-1. 

The two teams played a scoreless first quarter, with Coker out-shooting the Royals 4-2 in the period. 

At 7:26 of the second quarter, Molly Walter broke the scoreless tie with a goal to put the Royals ahead. 33 seconds later, Kelly Mason tied the game with a goal to get the Cobras on the board. The two teams would go to the half tied at one. 

Queens would score twice in the second half to secure the victory. 3:43 into the third quarter, Jenna Lloyd scored to put the Royals ahead, before the Royals would take their 2-1 lead to the fourth. Sta'Sha Waterfield would put the game away with a goal less than three minutes into the fourth quarter. 

Coker totaled six shots in the contest, and also two penalty corners. Mason led the Cobras with three shots on goal, while Victoria Humphreys also registered one shot on goal. Kaleigh Cordrey and Lisa Rempt also recorded shots for the Cobras. Kelsey Gibbons (1-2) took the loss in the cage, making 10 saves in the contest. 

Coker (3-4, 2-3 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) is back in action on Saturday (Sept. 28) when the Cobras make the trip to Gaffney, S.C. to battle Limestone. The contest is slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
