Cobras Bite Bobcats in Overtime Win on Saturday

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Coker University field hockey team outlasted Frostburg State in a 3-2 overtime win on Saturday (Sept. 21). 

Coker opened the scoring at 10:50 of the first quarter, when Kelly Mason scored from Amelia Gajewski to put the Cobras ahead 1-0. The Cobras would hold their lead into the second quarter, before Gabby Rachuba would score unassisted to tie the game at 19:52 of the first half. The two teams would go to the half deadlocked at 1-1. 

Lisa Rempt would put the Cobras ahead at the 31:13 mark in the third quarter, scoring from Gajewski. That would be the lone marker in the third quarter, as Coker would take its lead to the fourth. Just past the five-minute mark of the quarter, Emily Hughes would score from Brooke Lafayette to knot the game up at 2-2. 60 minutes would not be enough, and the Cobras would head to overtime for the first time in 2019. 

At 7:33 of the overtime period, Kaleigh Cordrey would score from Alyssa Baronella O-Toole to give the Cobras the win and lift Coker back above .500. 

Coker out-shot Frostburg State 17-14 in the win, while each team registered four penalty corners in the contest. Mason, Cordrey and Rempt each registered goals in the contest, while Gajewski tallied two assist along with one from Alyssa Baronella-O'Toole. Cordrey recorded four shots on goal, while Rempt and Gajewski each put two shots on frame. Ellie Mead and Alyssa Baronella O'Toole also each recorded one shot on goal in the contest. Kayla Hnasko (2-2) stopped seven shots between the pipes in the win.

Coker (3-2) returns to action tomorrow (Sunday, Sept. 22) when they travel to Slippery Rock (Pa.) for a non-conference matinee. The action begins at 1:00 p.m., with video and live stats available at www.cokercobras.com
