Field Hockey Falls at Belmont Abbey in Conference Action on Saturday

BELMONT, N.C. - The Coker University field hockey team fell on the road at Belmont Abbey on Saturday (Sept. 14) by a score of 8-3. 

The Crusaders scored the first three goals of the game and led 3-0 after one quarter. Belmont Abbey would score its fourth goal in a row less than five minutes into the second quarter, before Coker would respond with three straight goals to get back into the game. Amelia Gajewski scored from Kaleigh Cordrey and Britt Kabo at 24:49 of the first half, before Cordrey scored her first of the season inside the final minute of the first half. Belmont Abbey led the Cobras 4-2 at the break. 

Kabo began the second half with a goal just 19 seconds in to get Coker back within one goal, before Belmont Abbey would score twice in the third quarter and then again twice in the fourth quarter to seal the victory. 

Coker totaled eight shots with four on goal in the loss. Gajewski, Cordrey and Kabo each scored in the game, while Cordrey and Kabo also recorded assists in the game. Kayla Knasko took the loss in the cage, allowing three goals. Kelsey Gibbons also stopped 10 shots in 48:40 of relief. 

Coker (1-2, 1-2 South Atlantic Conference Carolinas) is back in action on Sunday (Sept. 15) when the Cobras host Converse at noon at the Coker Athletic Field.
