Cobras Down Mount Olive in Conference Win Wednesday Night

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University field hockey team picked up its first win of 2019 in convincing fashion on Wednesday night (Sept. 11), defeating the University of Mount Olive 4-0.

The Cobras struck early in the first quarter, with the first marker coming from Kelly Mason just 1:05 in. Mason made a move around a Mount Olive defender at the top of the arc before ripping a slapper that beat the Mount Olive goaltender low to the right for her first of the year. Ellie Mead would score from Britt Kabo at 9:02 of the first, before the Cobras would take their two-goal lead to the second.

 The Cobras created plenty of chances in both the second and third quarters, but were unable to find the back of the cage, holding their 2-0 lead through three quarters.

 The Cobras carried their two-goal lead into the fourth quarter, before padding their lead. Less than four minutes into the fourth, Mason scored her second of the night from Kabo to put the Cobras ahead 3-0. Lisa Rempt would get in on the scoring to score her first of the year with just over nine minutes to play in regulation. Mead fired a low shot off the pad of Mount Olive's goalkeeper, which deflected right to Rempt who was at the post. Rempt stashed it home to set the game at its final score.

 The Cobras totaled 31 shots on the night, including 18 on goal on the night. Mason finished with two goals on the night, while Mead totaled a goal and an assist in the game. Rempt tallied the fourth and final goal for the Cobras, while Kabo tallied two assists on the night. The Cobras held Mount Olive to three shots on the night, while Kelsey Gibbons (1-0) recorded the shutout without making a save.

 The Cobras (1-1) are back in action on Saturday (Sept. 14) at Belmont Abbey in a South Atlantic Conference Carolinas contest, slated for a 1:00 p.m. start.
