Field Hockey Tallies First Victory Since Return to Coker

SPARTANBURG, S.C. - The Coker College field hockey team tallied their first victory since it's return to Coker College with a hard-fought 4-2 final over the Converse College Valkyries in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas action. Amelia Gajewski had a breakout game with a team-best three goals, while Carla Deuble added a score of her own.

Coker jumped out to an early 1-0 advantage in the 22nd minute when Gajewski found the back of the cage unassisted. The Valkyries answered with a goal just before the end of the first half, and added another at the start of the second half to take a 2-1 lead over the Cobras.

Trailing by one score with 32 minutes remaining in regulation, the Navy and Gold took control of the game and scored three unanswered goals for the 4-2 victory. Deuble recorded her goal in the 50th minute, and Gajewski tacked on two more scores in the 60th and 69th minutes.

Gajewski led the Cobras offensively with three goals off of three shots, while Deuble tallied one score off of two shots. Additionally, Kaleigh Cordrey fired off four shots with two on goal.

The Cobras will be back in action on Wednesday (Oct. 3) when they travel to Queens to take on the Royals in South Atlantic Conference Carolinas play. Game time is set for 4 PM.
