Coker Esports Falls Early in Fall Hearthstone Championship

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University Esports Hearthstone team played in the Fall Hearthstone Championship playoffs on Saturday (Oct. 9) where they entered as the number eight seed in the South.

Their first match was against Florida Southern College, and the first game was Coker's Quest Druid against FSC's Highlander Hunter. FSC was able to gain massive value from their Zul'Jin and was able to win the first game. The second game was Coker's Quest Druid versus FSC's Control Warrior, and Coker was able to come back to tie the series at 1-1. Coker then lost back to back games and were not able to find a win with their Combo Priest. Coker lost the first match 3-1.

The second match of the day was against Florida State University. Florida State started off with a win with their Holy Wrath Paladin against Coker's Highlander Hunter. Coker was able to bounce back in game two with their Hunter against FSU's Quest Druid. The third game was a Quest Druid mirror and Coker was able to win this one, putting the match at 2-1. All Coker had to do was find one win with their Combo Priest against FSU's remaining two decks, Quest Druid and Control Warrior. Against the Quest Druid Coker was unable to gain momentum and lost to FSU's board. The fifth and final game had Coker starting strong and putting FSU down to 2HP, but they were unable to find lethal. Florida State was able to come back and win the match 3-2.

With the second loss on the day, Coker was elminated from the tournament. The players were disappointed with this quick exit, especially with their high ranking coming into the tournament. While this does mean that their current season is over, the Cobras are going to start planning for next semester and the next Hearthstone season.
