Coker Hearthstone Teams Take Wins Over the University of Tennessee and Lebanon Valley College

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College Hearthstone teams were back in action on Monday (Mar. 11), with the JV team taking on the University of Tennessee - Knoxville and the varsity squad battling Lebanon Valley College.

The JV team started off with their first loss of the season up against Tennessee's Even Warlock Deck, but was able to rally back with a win with their Midrange Hunter Deck. With the match tied at 1-1, Coker brought out their Even Paladin Deck against Topsy Turvey Priest. It was a close match but Coker was able to draw their Iron Beak Owl in order to get past Tennessee's Taunt to secure themselves a game three win. The last deck Coker needed to win with was their Odd Mage deck and it was looking a little rough but they were able to play their odds in order to find the win. The final play was to play two Daring Fire-Eaters and a Clockwork Automaton to deal 12 damage with their Hero Power and win the match. This puts the Coker JV team at 3-0 in the season so far, with the individual games going 9-1.

Next up was the varsity team against Lebanon Valley College and they started off with one of their favorite decks, Malygos Druid. They were up against an Even Warlock deck, but were able to find 20 damage on turn 10 with their Malygos Combo to secure game one. The next match was not going to be as fast, as it was Coker's Odd Control Warrior versus Lebanon's Control Mage deck. The match did go the distance, but Coker was able to get over five cards from their Ysera that helped them control the board and win the game. Now all Coker had to do was find a win with their Odd Mage deck. Lebanon Valley brought out their Topsy Turvey deck for the third game. It was looking good for Coker but Lebanon was able to find their combo and deal 64 damage in one turn. Next the Cobras had to play against Control Warlock, and the game went back and forth. Both players went below 15 health, but with lifesteal both went back to full health. Lebanon Valley was able to find board control and finish off Coker with a flurry of Doom Guards. The fifth and final game was a Control Mage Mirror. Coker was able to play their deck in an unconventional way to find themselves the win with multiple Blazecallers. This puts the Cobras at 3-4 in the Varsity Season and keeps them alive for playoff possibilities.

The Cobras will play again on Tuesday (Mar. 12) against Averett University at 9:00 PM.
