Coker Esports Defeats Southern New Hampshire, Falls to Harrisburg in Varsity Hearthstone League

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College Hearthstone team was back in action on Thursday (Feb. 28) and Friday (Mar. 1) as they took on Southern New Hampshire University and Harrisburg University in their fourth and fifth game in the Varsity Hearthstone League.

The first game against Southern New Hampshire University was Druid mirror with Coker running Malygos and Southern New Hampshire running Togwaggle. Coker was not able to get through the armor that was created, resulting in a game one loss. The Cobras came back with their Odd Mage decks while Southern New Hampshire brought their Odd Warrior deck. Coker was able to put enough pressure on the board that the Warrior was not able to keep up, putting the match at 1-1. Next was a battle of the decks that lost, Druid for Coker and Warrior for Southern New Hampshire. This time it was the Druid's time to take the win to put Coker up 2-1. Next up was the Control Warrior mirror, but the decks did have a few differences. Southern New Hampshire ran the deck with the warrior quest, while Coker ran a deck with a warrior package. This time Southern New Hampshire was finally able to get a win with their Warrior forcing a decisive fifth game. The final match was Coker's Warrior versus Southern New Hampshire's Even Warlock. The game went for almost 30 minutes with both teams running out of cards and going into fatigue. Coker was able to keep board pressure and win the fifth and final game to move their record to 2-2.

On Friday (Mar. 1) the Cobras were back in action against Harrisburg University in their fifth game of the Varsity Hearthstone League. The first game was Coker's Control Warrior versus Harrisburg's Mill Druid, which is a bad matchup for the Cobras because their deck has a 14% win rate against the Storm's deck. Sadly Coker was not able to overcome the odds and lost the first game. For the second game Coker brought back their Warrior and Harrisburg decided to use their Topsy Turvy priest deck. Although it looked like Coker was in the driver's seat for the majority of the match, Harrisburg was able to get to their combo and kill Coker with a 64 attack stonetusk boar. For the third game, Coker decided to switch up decks and brought their Mage Deck to play against the Harrisburg's final deck, Control Warrior. Harrisburg was able to keep board control for the entire match, resulting in a 0-3 match loss for Coker and giving the Cobras a 2-3 record for the season.

The Cobras will be back in action on Saturday (Mar. 2) at 1:00 PM as they take on Northeastern University, with the match being streamed at www.twitch.tv/cokeresports.
