Coker Splits Week Six of Overwatch Championship, Takes Down FIU in the Regional League

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker College Overwatch team was back in action on Sunday (Feb. 10) night for week 6 of the Tespa Overwatch season as they took on Carnegie Mellon and Florida International University.

The first match was against Carnegie Mellon in the National League and both teams entered with a 4-1 record. The first map was Blizzard World and the first round started off promising as Coker got the first point and started the payload push. They were met with a strong defense from Carnegie Mellon as they were able to stall long enough just short of the second point. They then came back on the offense and took the first point and pushed the payload for the win. The second map was Oasis, and Carnegie Mellon kept their momentum from the first map and got control of the point immediately. Coker was never able to regain control and they lost the first round. The second round was back and forth with Coker taking control of the point shortly after Carnegie Mellon got it first. Both teams were at 99% and the round was in Overtime, but the opponents were able to get control of the point and hold it for the win.

The second match was the fourth Regional League match, this time against Florida International University. The Cobras faced off against Florida International back in the first week of the National League tournament, but this was a different roster than the last time these teams faced each other. The first map was Rialto and Coker started off strong by pushing through the entire map with 2:36 left on the clock. Next it was up to Florida International to push through but Coker was able to stop them halfway towards the first point. The second map was Temple of Anubis and FIU come out with a quick push and was able to get a quick first tick. Coker was able to recover and set up their defenses again. This time they were able to hold them for the rest of the round. Next all Coker had to do was to get the second tick, which Coker was able to do within the first minute, giving Coker the map and the match win 2-0.

This puts Coker at 4-2 in the National League and 3-1 in the Regional League. The Cobras will return on Tuesday (Feb. 12) against Savannah College for Art and Design for their final Varsity League match. The match is set to begin at 8:00 pm and will be live at www.twitch.tv/cokeresports.
