Esports Defeats UCLA, Splits Overwatch Matches

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - This Sunday (Nov. 11), Coker faced off against UCLA and North Texas in week eight of the Tespa Overwatch Preseason. Against UCLA, the Cobras started off slow by dropping the first map of Nepal 2-1. Although the first map was extremely competitive, the Cobras kept their spirits high and came back swinging on Temple of Anubis. The Navy and Gold attacked first and were able to get all three points with 10 seconds to spare. Next, it was their time to defend and they were able to hold off UCLA at the first points, not allowing a single tick. The final map was Numbani and Coker used their momentum from the last map and capped all three points with almost four minutes to spare. This put the pressure on UCLA as they needed to finish the map fast, but the Cobras repeated their success in the map denying UCLA to retrieve a single tick. Coker won the match 2-1 and next up was North Texas.

Next up was the University of North Texas (UNT), who also earned a win in the match prior. The first map was Dorado and UNT stopped Coker just short of the second point. Although the Cobras were able to hold them off for a while, UNT was able to break through and take the first map. Next was King's Row and Coker came back with something to prove. The Cobras were able to push all three points with time to spare and then it was their turn to defend. After a close couple of fights, they were able to hold off UNT before they could tally a single point. The final map was Rialto, and Coker was yet again first to attack. This time it was UNT that held the first point well, stopping the Cobras well short of the first point. Although they tried valiantly, the Cobras were not able to hold them off and lost the Match 2-1.

Coker currently sits at 11-5 for the preseason and will return for week nine this Sunday (Nov. 18) starting at 9PM. Fans can check out the action at www.twitch.tv/cokeresports.
