HOW IT HAPPENED:
G1:
Coker jumped out to an early 3-0 lead Sunday afternoon. The scoring got started when Alex Lazar singled to left center field to plate Ick Cirino and Gabriel Santiago. A batter later, Hunter Poole brought in the third run of the inning to give the Cobras a big lead early.
Tusculum responded quickly over the course of the next four innings though. The Pioneers added two runs on four hits to bring the game within one in the third. They then added one run in the fourth and fifth to take a 4-3 lead.
Britton Adams came on in relief and pitched five scoreless innings for the Cobras to help keep the game in reach. While Coker continue to threaten in multiple innings, they didn't breakthrough until the ninth. In the ninth, the Cobras wouldn't just breakthrough though, they exploded, plating eight runs to take a demanding 11-4 lead. Coker blasted eight hits on the inning with six players accounting for atleast one RBI to take game one, clinching a spot in the SAC tournament.
Britton Adams earned his sixth win on the season, while Ick Cirino, Rocco Wojcik, Alex Lazar, and Adam Wilkerson all roped two hits each.
G2:
Game two started with a bang for the Cobras leader in the home run department. Jaylen Mack's fourth long ball of the year gave Coker an early 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Graham Whittle got the ball for Coker, and was dominant on the mound, shutting down the Pioneers for the first three innings. He faced just seven batters over the course of those first three innings, keeping the Pioneers scoreless.
In the top of the fourth, Coker extended their lead. The scoring was started with Hunter Poole reaching on an error to plate Kyler Odom who singled earlier in the inning. Coker then did what they do best, create havoc on the base paths. A Jacob Yarberry sacrifice bunt scored Luke Peterson, and then a double steal brought home Hunter Poole. Ick Cirino added a single later in the inning to plate Yarberry and by the innings end, Coker led 6-0.
The Pioneers plated one run in the bottom of the fourth, but between Whittle and Cooper Thomas, the Cobras were able to only allow Tusculum one run over the course of the seven innings, earning a game two win 6-1.
G3:
Coker made it a three for three weekend in game three when they struck first yet again in the second inning Monday. The scoring got started with a Jacob Yarberry single through the left side, plating Luke Alford and Hunter Poole. Ick Cirino then added another on a single of his own just a batter later, and a double steal eventually helped Coker jump out to an early 4-0 lead.
After allowing one run in the bottom half of the second, the Cobras quickly added more insurance in the third. Jaylen Mack hammered home his second home run of the weekend to give Coker a 6-1 lead through three and a half.
The Pioneers didn't go away quietly adding another run in the fourth, but it was starting pitcher Aaron Diaz and Kyle Stock out of the bullpen who limited the damage throughout the early stages to help Coker hold onto a demanding lead.
The combination of Jack Clifford, Justin Skinnell, and Cody Chapman then worked one inning each in the sixth, seventh, and eighth to put Coker in prime position to earn the series sweep.
In the ninth, the Cobras seemingly put the game away, adding seven runs to take a 14-2 lead into the bottom half of the ninth. Cody Chapman then pitched his second inning to close out the three game sweep.
