Cobras Split Doubleheader With Royals
HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker baseball team split its South Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Queens (N.C.) University on Saturday (Apr. 2). The Cobras took game one 8-5, then dropped game two by a 12-5 score.

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker baseball team split its South Atlantic Conference doubleheader with Queens (N.C.) University on Saturday (Apr. 2). The Cobras took game one 8-5, then dropped game two by a 12-5 score.
In game one, the Royals took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning before Coker struck back for two in the home half of the opening frame. Phill Griffor doubled and then scored on a Cory Listing RBI single. Listing came around to score on Kody Hanna's RBI single to tie things up 2-2. The Cobras took a 3-2 lead in the bottom of the fourth behind a Tripp Kimmel RBI single to drive in Bryan Castillo.
Queens answered with one in the top of the fifth, but Coker responded with a four spot in the bottom of the inning. Hall and Listing walked ahead of another Hanna RBI single. Brady Jeffcoat's RBI groundout pushed across another run and Hanna scored on a Royals wild pitch. Jackson Williams singled in Castillo to round out the inning with the score at 7-3. Williams added another in the bottom of the eighth when he launched his first home run of the season to seal the victory. Tanner Wofford earned the win on the mound, throwing 3 ⅓ innings while only allowing one earned run and striking out five batters. Freshman Cooper Thomas recorded his third save of the season with two innings of relief out of the bullpen.
In game two, the Royals' bats came alive as they posted four runs in the first inning and three runs in both the second and third. Coker got on the board in the bottom of the third with a Reilly Hall solo shot, his seventh of the season and 21st of his career. The Cobras would scratch across four more runs, including Jacob Yarberry's two run home run for his first career collegiate hit, but the effort would come up short. Seven different players registered hits for Coker in the loss.
