Hall Sets Home Run Record in Loss to Queens (N.C.)

HARTSVILLE, S.C. - The Coker University baseball team dropped its South Atlantic Conference series opener to Queens (N.C.) by a score of 7-3 on Friday (Apr. 1) night.

The Royals took an early lead in the top of the first inning, but the Cobras responded in the bottom half. Senior Reilly Hall led off the bottom of the first with a solo shot over the centerfield fence to tie the game at 1-1 and set the Coker career record for home runs with the 20th of his career. 

Queens (N.C.) added one run in each of the fourth, sixth, and seventh innings to run their lead to 4-1. The Cobras struck back for two runs in the bottom of the seventh, as Andrew Scudder walked and Reilly Hall doubled to set the table for Phill Griffor's two RBI single to make it 4-3. The Royals added two runs in the eighth and one in the ninth to take the 7-3 decision.

Griffor paced the Cobras offensively with three hits and two runs driven in. Hall had two hits, both extra bases, and drove in a run of his own. Kody Hanna, Brady Jeffcoat, Jackson Williams, Tripp Kimmel and Scudder all contributed a hit to the Coker effort. Brendan Mullins threw 5 ⅔ solid innings on the mound for the Cobras, allowing just two earned runs while striking out six Royals batters.

Coker will wrap up the weekend series against Queens (N.C.) on Saturday (Apr. 2) with a doubleheader. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1pm, with live video and statistics available at www.cokercobras.com.
