Cobras Fall to Carson-Newman in Wild Extra-Inning Contest

JEFFERSON CITY, Tenn. -- The Coker College baseball team fell to Carson-Newman 12-11 in a wild, 10-inning affair on Saturday (Apr. 20).

Grant Thompson led the way with five hits, posting his second five-hit game of the season. Larry McCabe hit his ninth home run of the season, and knocked in five runs on the afternoon, and Gavin Matthews hit his first collegiate home run, finishing with two hits.

Coker jumped out to a 10-7 lead in the top of the eighth, but the Eagles responded with three runs in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings. The Cobras then took an 11-10 lead into the bottom of the 10th, but the Eagles managed to scratch across two runs and pull out the victory.

Coker will be back in action on Monday (Apr. 22) when they finish out their three-game series with the Eagles. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
