Cobras Split Non-Conference Doubleheader with Eckerd

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The Coker College baseball team split their doubleheader with Eckerd College in non-conference action on Saturday (Apr. 6).

The Cobras dropped game one, before pulling out a 9-5 victory in game two.

Reilly Hall opened the scoring for Coker in the top of the fourth inning, hitting a solo homerun to give the Cobras an early 1-0 lead. Matt Swiderski added to the lead with an RBI single later in the inning for a 2-0 lead. Swiderski finished the day 3-4 with two RBI. 

The Cobras struck for four more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Casey Demko singled in two runs, and then singled in two more runs in the top of the eighth to push the lead to 8-2.

Eckerd answered with three runs in the bottom of the eighth, but the Cobras added their ninth and final run on Swiderski's second RBI in the top of the ninth.

Grant Thompson finished the day with three hits, while Demko and Hall had two hits apiece as well.

Tanner Wofford pitched well, going seven innings and notching two strikeouts. Griffin Hollifield picked up his second save of the season with 1.2 scoreless innings of relief.

The Cobras will be back in action on Sunday (Apr. 7) when they conclude their three-game series with Eckerd. First pitch is scheduled for 12:00 p.m.
