McCabe Leads Cobras to Doubleheader Split with Pioneers

GREENEVILLE, Tenn. -- The Coker College baseball team split a doubleheader with Tusculum in South Atlantic Conference action on Saturday (Mar. 30).

The Cobras dropped game one of the doubleheader, but rebounded to down the Pioneers 8-6 in game two.

Coker fell behind 2-0 in the first inning of game two, and then managed to take a 3-2 lead after a clutch two-run, two-out double by Lake Lybrand in the top of the fourth inning.

Tusculum tied the game back up at 3-3, but Coker scored three runs in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead for good. Reilly Hall walked in a run, and Larry McCabe delivered the knockout punch with a double to left centerfield scoring Chase Bruno and KJ Curry.

Coker added to their lead with two runs in the top of the seventh inning. Bruno doubled in Lybrand, and Curry scored again, this time on a Hall sacrifice fly to give the Cobras an 8-4 advantage.

Tusculum responded with two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but Drake Knight closed the door on the Pioneers in relief of starter Jon Koski. Koski improved to 5-1 on the season, striking out nine batters in 6.1 innings pitched.

The Cobras will be back in action on Tuesday (Apr. 2) when they travel to face UNC Pembroke in a non-conference matchup. First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
