Cobras Fall to Catawba in Saturday Doubleheader

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- The Coker College baseball played games two and three of their three game South Atlantic Conference series with the Catawba College Indians. The Cobras dropped both games, though, Ryan Caldwell and Bryson Conner both launched home runs. 

Game One- In game one, a scheduled nine inning affair, Coker (9-3, 0-3) picked up a run in the second, two in the seventh, and one in the ninth.

In the top of the second, Coker scored off of a bases loaded walk issued to Reilly Hall. With one out, Connor Cleary drew a walk, followed by a Tanner Crosby single to left. After Jon Koski reached on an error by the shortstop to load the bases. Hall was walked, plating Cleary for his eighth run driven in this season.

The Cobras pushed two more runs across in the seventh as Hall led off with a double to the gap in left center. With one out, Bryson Conner singled through the left side putting runners on the corners. Brooks Estrada reached on yet another error by Catawba's shortstop, scoring Conner and Hall.

In the ninth, Ryan Caldwell pinch hit for Larry McCabe in the ninth and homered to right field.

Game Two-

Coker (9-4, 0-3) scored five runs on the afternoon, all coming in the top of the fifth inning.

Bryson Conner added to his home run total, roping a three run home run to left, driving in Hall and Lybrand who walked and doubled in front of him. Later in the inning with the bases loaded, Michael Serafin, doubled to left bringing in two runs.

Coker will return home to face Dominican (N.Y.) on Monday (Feb. 26) at 2:00 p.m. for a non-conference game at Tom J. New Field at Dave Schmotzer Stadium. Livestream video and live-stats for the game can be found by visiting www.cokercobras.com.
