HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker baseball will take on UNC Pembroke on Sunday (Apr. 23) for a non-conference doubleheader. Video and live stats will be available at www.cokercobras.com.
The two teams played at UNC Pembroke on Saturday (Apr. 22) with the Braves sweeping the doubleheader.
The Cobras will honor 10 seniors in between the games of the doubleheader. The 2017 seniors are AJ Strnad, Darius Coldiron, Robert Kraft, Dan McGill, Clint Allen, Larry Parker, Scott Burnley, Will Sutton, Ryan Wayne and Forrest Arnold.
Strnad has played in 86 games in his Coker career, totaling 282 at-bats. He has knocked 86 hits, including 16 doubles, one triple and seven home runs. He has registered 35 RBI, and scored 78 runs. He owns a career average of .305 at Coker and has stolen 34 bases. He also owns a career .454 on-base percentage and a .443 slugging percentage.
Coldiron has been a vital two-way player for the Cobras, playing in 83 total games over his two-year career. Offensively, Coldiron is a .330 career hitter who owns a .436 on-base percentage and a .444 slugging percentage. He has tallied 95 total hits, including 22 doubles, one triple and three home runs. He has driven in 54 runs and also scored 63 times. He has swiped four bags in his Coker career. On the mound, he has made 22 appearances, including 14 starts. He owns an 8-5 record and two saves in 77.2 innings. In that span he also recorded 62 strikeouts.
Kraft appeared in one game in his Coker career.
McGill has appeared in 16 games for the Navy and Gold, recording a .136 career average. He has also scored three runs in his career.
Allen played in 107 games in his Coker career, and is a .241 career hitter. He owns a career on-base percentage of .373 and a slugging percentage of .27. He tallied 65 total hits including five doubles, one triple and one home run, while collecting 33 RBI. Allen also scored 60 runs and stole 23 bases. He was awarded the SAC Gold Glove for his play in left field in 2016.
Parker has appeared in three games in his Coker career, notching two innings of relief. He recorded one strikeout.
Burnley has appeared in 21 career games for the Navy and Gold, owning a .217 career batting average. Burnley also owns a career .339 on-base percentage and a .217 career slugging percentage. He has recorded 10 career hits, driven in 10 runs and scored 10 runs. He also has three stolen bases to his credit.
Sutton has appeared in 41 games, making 16 starts in his career. He has tallied eight wins, one save and three complete games in 118.0 innings of work. Sutton has 68 career strikeouts and a 5.19 career earned run average.
Wayne has played in 47 career games for Coker, owning a .265 career batting average. He also owns a .351 career on-base percentage and a .402 career slugging percentage. Wayne has totaled 35 hits, including seven doubles, one triple and three home runs. He has also driven in 33 runs and scored 22 times. Wayne also has stolen six bases in his career.
Arnold has appeared in 63 games in his Coker career, including 41 starts. He has 15 career wins, and has thrown five complete games. He has 145 career strikeouts in 239.1 career innings, along with a 5.57 earned run average. Arnold was named Astroturf South Atlantic Conference Pitcher of the Week twice in 2017.
On the season for the Cobras, Thomas Lopez leads the way offensively. The junior's .326 average is 37th individually in the league, while his 36 RBI are tied for 27th. Griffin Hollifield's team-high 20 appearances on the mound are tied for 10th in the conference, while his six saves are tied for second in the league.
UNC Pembroke comes into the matchup 33-11 and 13-8 in the Peach Belt Conference. Offensively, they are led by Roberto Rivera, whose .424 batting average is seventh in the Peach Belt. Teammate Nick Debo owns a .386 mark, which is 17th in the conference.
First pitch on Sunday is set for 10:00 a.m. at Tom J. New Field at Dave Schmotzer Stadium. Both games will be seven-inning games. Tickets for the games are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
