Coker Falls to Wingate in SAC Championships

KODAK, TENN.- Coker baseball fell 10-5 to Wingate in the play-in round of the South Atlantic Conference Baseball Championship on Thursday (April 28).

The Cobras trailed 3-0 after one inning before Miguel Frias's sixth homer of the year tied the game in the top of the second. Wingate tallied two runs each in three of the next four innings to take a 9-3 lead, before a Coker two-spot off the bat of Will Winslow in the seventh cut into the lead. The dinger was Winslow's seventh of the season. 

Frias and Thomas Lopez each went 2-5, while Bryson Conner, Will Winslow, Jack Leech, Darius Coldiron and Colton Henthorne each recorded one hit. Dallas Baldwin (6-4) took the loss, tossing 5.1 innings allowing eight runs, seven earned on nine hits. The right-hander also fired three strikeouts in the contest. Will Sutton and Anthony Scaccia each made relief appearances in the loss.

The loss concludes the 2016 baseball season and the coaching career of Coker legend Dave Schmotzer
