Cobras Pick up Midweek Win, Season Sweep of Claflin

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker baseball picked up a 15-10 win over Claflin in non-conference action on Wednesday (April 6). With the win the Cobras completed the season sweep of the Panthers.

Trailing 1-0 after half an inning, Coker would respond with three runs in the bottom half of the first and never relinquish the lead. The Cobras would have four other multi-run innings, scoring twice in the third, four times in the fourth, twice again in the sixth and three in the seventh, along with one run in the eighth.

Five Cobras recorded multiple hits, highlighted by Thomas Lopez's 3-4 day which featured two doubles, four RBI's and three runs scored. Will Winslow went 2-3 and scored three times, while Jack Leech went 2-5 knocking his second homer of the year. Miguel Frias posted a 2-3 day collecting four RBI's, and Ryan Wayne went 2-2 with a double and three runs knocked in.

Forrest Arnold (4-3) picked up the win, tossing the opening inning allowing one earned run on two hits while punching out two. Ben Brown and Ryan Milner followed Arnold with scoreless relief innings of their own, while Kenny Barry would allow one run in his relief appearance. Jake Moore tossed a scoreless inning and Kieran Davis made his first appearance of the season. JT Whritner, Joey Carpenter and Darius Coldiron would finish out the final three innings respectively for the Coker staff.

The Cobras (23-14, 8-7 SAC) return to conference play this weekend (April 8-9) when they host Mars Hill for a three-game set. First pitch on Friday is set for 3:00 p.m. at Tom J. New Field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
