Cobras Drop Regional Game to UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C.-  Coker baseball dropped its Wednesday (Mar. 9) non-conference game to UNC Pembroke 6-4.

Thomas Lopez paced the Cobras at the plate, notching a 3-4 day with two RBI and a run scored. Lopez's RBI double in the first opened the scoring and gave Coker the early lead. The Braves, ranked No. 9 in the Southeast region, would respond with one of their own in the bottom half. From there the Cobras would plate two in the third thanks to RBI singles from Lopez and Jack Leech. The Braves would plate three their next two offensive frames, while adding on two in the seventh making the score 6-3. Leech would pick up another RBI on a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. On the play, Lopez would advance to third, but the Cobras could not continue the rally.

Ryan Milner (1-2) took the loss in the contest, going 4.0 innings allowing four earned runs on eight hits. The junior also issued one free pass and struck out one. Forrest Arnold, Kenny Barry and Will Sutton each fired a scoreless inning of relief.

The Cobras continue their spring break road trip tomorrow (Mar. 10) when they take on Bluefield State. First pitch is set for high noon.
