Cobras Earn Saturday Split, Series Win over Erskine

ERKSINE, S.C.- Coker baseball split its Saturday (Feb. 20) non-conference doubleheader with Erskine, dropping game one 9-5 and rebounding with a 16-9 win in game two to win the series 2-1.

In the first game, Coker scored at least one run in three of seven innings but the offensive effort was not enough. Will Winslow notched a 2-3 effort in the game, while Michael Orlowski went 3-4. Miguel Frias also went 2-4 in the first game. Forrest Arnold (3-1) recorded his first loss of the season, tossing 5.1 innings allowing nine runs, eight earned on 11 hits. The right-hander also fired three strikeouts and walked one. 

An eight-run second and a five-run third pushed Coker to a 16-9 victory in the rubber match. Six Cobras notched multi-hit games in the win. Winslow went 2-4, scoring two runs and knocking in two more, while Darius Coldiron went 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored. Thomas Lopez notched a 2-2 game with three runs scored and one RBI, while Miguel Frias went 3-4 with four RBI and one run scored. Ryan Wayne notched a 2-4 day scoring once and knocking two runs in, and Bryson Conner went 2-4 and scored three times.

Ben Brown (1-0) logged his first win of the season, firing two innings in relief. The righty allowed two earned runs on two hits, while walking one and recording one punchout. 

The Cobras will take the diamond again on Tuesday (Feb. 23) when they host Bluefield State in non-conference action. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. at Tom J. New Field. Tickets for the game are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.
