Cobras Notch Doubleheader Sweep over Golden Knights

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker baseball swept Saint Rose in their doubleheader on Saturday (Feb. 13) at Tom J. New Field.

Coker notched a 5-3 win in game one, scoring all its runs in the sixth and eighth innings. The game stayed scoreless through four before the Golden Knights scraped two across off of starter Dallas Baldwin. Coker would respond with its own two-spot in the sixth. After Saint Rose got another run off of Will Sutton (1-0), the Cobras would piece together a three-run eighth inning. Darius Coldiron got the two-out rally started with a single and Thomas Lopez followed up with a walk. Miguel Frias would drive Coldiron home with a single into right field that also got Lopez to third. Jack Leech picked up an RBI single to score Lopez and push Frias to third. Frias would score on a wild pitch to get Coker an insurance run. Coldiron would come on in the ninth to collect his first save of the season. Sutton fired three innings in the win, allowing two hits and one unearned run. The southpaw also allowed one walk and punched three out.

Four multi-run innings powered the Cobras to a 14-6 win in game two. Two runs in the first, three in the third, five in the fifth and three in the seventh would be plenty of run support for the Cobra staff. Bryson Conner notched a 2-4 day with two doubles, three RBI and a run scored. Miguel Frias was 1-2 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored. Colton Henthorne also collected a double and two RBI on the day, also scoring two runs.

Starter Forrest Arnold (3-0) picked up the win, firing 3.1 innings allowing three earned runs on eight hits. The lanky right-hander fired two strikeouts and walked one.

The Cobras are back in action this weekend (Feb. 19-20) when they travel to Erskine for a non-conference series. First pitch on Friday is set for 2:00 p.m. and Saturday is set for 12:00 p.m.
