Cobras Split Twinbill, Win Weekend Series

HARTSVILLE, S.C.- Coker baseball split its Sunday (Feb. 7) doubleheader with Chowan, but won the overall weekend series three games to one.

Coker lost game one by a score of 7-3. Ryan Milner (1-1) took the loss in the contest, surrendering six earned runs on eight hits in 4.2 innings of work. The junior walked two and punched out five in the effort. The Cobras trailed 1-0 through four before a six-run Hawks fifth inning put the visitors up 7-0. Coker would respond the following inning with a Miguel Frias three-run homer to cut into the lead. The Cobras would put a scare into the Hawks in their final at-bat when Will Winslow singled with two outs, followed up by a Bryson Conner single. Both runners would move into scoring position for Darius Coldiron, who would draw a walk to load the bases. Thomas Lopez would fly out to left to end the game. 

Coker rebounded in game two with a 7-3 victory. Coker jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning on a combination of five walks, one Chowan error, and two hits including a two-RBI double from Bryson Conner. Coker would add a run in each of the next two innings. Darius Coldiron (1-1) earned the win, tossing 5.1 innings of shutout baseball. Coldiron allowed three hits, walked one and fired eight strikeouts in the game.

The Cobras will take the field again Tuesday (Feb. 9) when they host the Paine Lions. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m. at Tom J. New Field.
