Coker Takes Down Claflin 20-8

ORANGEBURG, S.C. – The Coker Cobras plated 17 runs in the first three innings en route to a 20-8 non-conference win over the Claflin Panthers on Tuesday (Mar. 31) evening in collegiate baseball action.

The Cobras opened the game with nine runs in the first inning. They added another run in the second and seven more in the third. A run in the fourth and another in the fifth gave them a 19-0 lead. The Panthers scored four in the seventh and three in the eighth to make it a 19-7 ballgame. Both teams exchanged runs in the ninth for a 20-8 final.

Korbin Causey (1-2) picked up the win on the mound. He went five scoreless innings, scattering four hits with three strikeouts.

Will Winslow, Jack Leech and Sammy Song led the way for the Cobras at the plate. Winslow went 4-for-4 with a home run, four RBIs and three runs scored. Leech was 3-for-5 with a homer, a double, three RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Song finished the day with three hits, including a double and three RBIs. Taylor Fennewald also drove in two runs and scored three with a home run, while Joe Diaz was 2-for-5 with a  triple, two RBIs and two runs scored. Michael Orlowski, Miguel Frias, Griffin Sullivan, Alex Rodriguez and Bryson Conner each drove in a run as well for the Cobras.

Coker will return to the diamond on Wednesday (Apr. 1) in another non-conference game at home against St. Andrews. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m. at Tom J. New Field.
