Cobras Drop Series Opener to Bulldogs

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobras dropped the opening game of their South Atlantic Conference baseball series to the Wingate Bulldogs on Friday (Feb. 13), 12-5.

The Cobras jumped out to a 4-0 lead with a pair of runs in the first inning and two more in the third. The Bulldogs answered with three runs in the fifth and five runs in the sixth to take an 8-4 lead. Coker trimmed the lead with another run in the bottom of the sixth inning, making it 8-5 in favor of the Bulldogs. The score remain unchanged until the top of the ninth when Wingate secured the win with four runs to make it a 12-5 ballgame.

Forrest Arnold (1-2) was tagged with the loss. He allowed five runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts in five innings on the hill.

Leading the Cobras at the plate was Sammy Song with two hits, including a double with an RBI and two runs scored. Will Winslow also had a double, drove in a run and scored a run. Tyler Osik drove in two runs for the Cobras and Anthony Scaccia drove in a run as well.

The Cobras and the Bulldogs will complete their three-game series on Saturday (Feb. 14) with a doubleheader beginning at noon.
