Coker Splits SAC Doubleheader with Brevard

BREVARD, N.C. – The Coker Cobras split their South Atlantic Conference baseball doubleheader with the Brevard Tornados on Saturday (Feb. 7) afternoon. Brevard won game one 6-5, but Coker picked up the win in game two, 1-0.

The first game of the day was a back and forth battle, with Brevard jumping out to a 2-0 lead through three innings. The Cobras closed the gap with a run in the top of the fourth, but the Tornados regained the two-run advantage with another run in the bottom half of the inning. A two-run fifth inning by Coker tied the game at three. Brevard took a one-run lead in the sixth, 4-3, but a two-run eighth by the Cobras gave Coker its first lead of the ballgame, 5-4. The Tornados posted two more runs in the bottom of the eighth to take a 6-5 lead and the eventual win.

Anthony Scaccia (1-0) was tagged with the loss. He allowed two runs on two hits in two innings on the hill.

Alex Rodriguez led the Cobras at the plate with a pair of hits, including a double and two RBIs. Dustin Russell also had two hits with an RBI and a run scored. Miguel Frias and Will Winslow each had a double with an RBI and Tyler Osik drove in a run as well.

In game two, Forrest Arnold (1-1) led the way for the Cobras with a complete game, three hit shutout on the mound.

Russell drove in Coker's lone run and Frias, Rodriguez and Sammy Song had two hits each.

The Cobras will return to the diamond for their home opener on Monday (Feb. 9). The Coker will host St. Augustine's College in a non-conference game beginning at 2 p.m. at Tom J. New Field.
