HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker Cobra baseball team suffered a 14-2 loss to the Brevard Tornados in game one of its three-game South Atlantic Conference series on Friday (April 18).
The Cobras struck first with a run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Fico Kondla. Brevard took the lead with two runs in the top of the third and added seven more in the top of the fifth for a 9-1 lead. Coker scored their second run of the ball game in the bottom of the fifth with an RBI single by T.J. Giczkowski. After three scoreless innings, the Tornados put the game away with five runs in the top of the ninth for a 14-2 final.
Forrest Arnold (4-3) was charged with the loss. He allowed five runs on eight hits with a pair of strikeouts in 4.2 innings on the mound.
Giczkowski led the way at the plate for the Cobras. He was 3-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Kondla also drove in a run and collected a hit, while Sammy Song had a hit and scored a run.
The Cobras and the Tornados will complete their SAC series on Saturday (April 19) with a double-header beginning at noon. Prior to the start of the first game, Coach Dave Schmotzer and the Cobras will honor their seven seniors with a special Senior Day ceremony.
