Cobras Take on Wolves in Pivotal SAC Weekend Series

HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The Coker College baseball team welcomes the Newberry Wolves into town for a three-game South Atlantic Conference series starting Friday (April 11).

The Cobras come into the contest sporting a 20-17 overall record after splitting a two game tilt with the No. 20 UNCP Braves. 

The senior trio of T.J. Giczkowski, Ernie Kirkwood and Fico Kondla have been the offensive catalyst this season. Giczkowski has a team-high .352 batting average to go along with a team best two homeruns. Kirkwood is not far behind sporting a .351 batting average, alongside a team-high 37 RBIs and 10 doubles. His RBI total is good enough for fifth best in the conference. Kondla comes in with a .315 batting average, 24 RBIs and a conference leading 22 stolen bases. The team has swiped 107 bags all together ranking one of the best in Division II in that category.

On the mound, Matt Prosser and Ben Brown both head into the series with a 4-3 record. Prosser has a team low 3.02 ERA while Brown comes in with a 3.83 ERA. Adam Webb is still perfect on the season at 4-0 with a 3.90 ERA.

The Wolves come to Hartsville with an even 21-21 overall and 11-13 in conference record after beating No. 12 Georgia College. They are led offensively by Ryan Cranmer and Albert Baur. Cranmer has a .350 batting average along with 32 RBIs while Baur is batting .309 with a team-high 37 RBIs. Wesley Camp has been the ace for Newberry with a team and conference high eight wins on the season.

Game one of the series will begin Friday (April 11) at 3 p.m. With games two and three starting at noon and 3 p.m. on Saturday (April 12). All games will be played at Tom J. New Field. Live stats and video can be found at www.cokercobras.com
